GM Video Shows Factory Robots Wrapping Gifts
I’m not sure if this is the best example of repurposing I’ve seen, but at least it’s seasonal. Some folks at General Motors reprogrammed several production robots to put toy cars inside a wrapped box—which could conceivably be bad news for gift wrappers AND elves. Watch the video below.
The robots can also spot-weld labels onto the gifts.
The car transporting all those boxes, by the way, is a 45th Anniversary Chevrolet Camaro SS Convertible.
GM, of course, has a long history with product robots. Its first industrial robot went into service in 1961, and the company also helped establish FANUC as a joint venture. GM buys and deploys around 3,000 robots globally each year.
